Week of December 14th- 18th

Dear Parents,

We will have our class party on Thursday.  Please send food in the morning and be reminded that we cannot have more parents than the designated 6.  From our Head of School: “Unfortunately, as previously mentioned,  we can not have more than 6 parents in the grade level supporting our end of term parties this year. We know that we all like to get together and socialize at these events, but due to restrictions, we cannot do this for this year. We will look at ways to invite parents into the classrooms in the new year, so we can continue to share learning and build community.”

The children should come to school in their swim suits and can change into party/holiday clothes after.

Last week we let our butterfly go.  The children thought that it should be in nature and didn’t think it wanted to live in a plastic box.  Can you spot it among the leaves?

Last week the students also participated in the “Hour of Code.”  This is the 5th year KIS has been joining in on this learning event during Computer Science Education Week. Our Hour of Code is making a statement that KIS is ready to teach these foundational 21st-century skills. We want to continue bringing programming activities to our students to ensure that our students are on the forefront of creating technology of the future—not just consuming it. The stations included the following:

  • Physical computing with Makey Makey, Micro:bit, Scratch, LED lights, Sound
  • Robotics: how to code the robots to win in Sumo and Line following challenges
  • Coding challenges – based on coding skills students learnt in class

This week we will continue working on our class book and still life paintings.  We are also looking forward to a fun-filled week of learning about, and celebrating, the holidays Hanukkah and Christmas!
