Unit of Inquiry
We have been tuning in to our new unit, How the World Works: Nature Inspires.
The central idea for this unit is:

People design and create using observations from nature.

Once again, we are asking each student to bring in an artifact for this unit. The artifact can be anything that connects to ‘nature’.

Students should be able to discuss what they have brought and how it is connected to nature.

Please start sending in artifacts at your earliest convenience. We would like all artifacts in by next Monday 3rd February. Thank you for your support.

Classroom Centers (Senses)
Last week students began exploring new classroom centers involving the 5 senses.

They are practising how to use descriptive language through expressing how things look, sound, feel and smell.

Kelso’s Choices
EY3 students are learning about how to solve small problems by using Kelso’s Choices.

They are learning the difference between big problems and small problems. Big problems are situations that make us feel afraid or in danger. For big problems, it is necessary to seek help from an adult. However, if there is a small problem (i.e. a situation that makes us feel upset, bothered, annoyed, etc.), we can try to solve the problem on our own by choosing one of Kelso’s Choices.

Last Wednesday, Ms. Alex, our PYP counselor, came to share a story about forgiveness with us in the AudiBox.

This story tied in well with what we are learning about Kelso’s Choices.

In line with our current Unit of Inquiry, we have been using natural materials to create our class bulletin board display (about our garden) in the PYP atrium and will be completing it in the next couple of days.

We are still looking for…
Old child-friendly magazines, broken gadgets or small appliances (anything that can be taken apart), and/or any old tools at home that you do not use and no longer need, we would love to have them. The students are really enjoying this activity.

Please send in any materials at your convenience.

Coding at Home
As many of our students have been enjoying coding, some parents have been asking about access to our EY3 class CodeSpark Academy account.

CodesparkWhat is ‘Coding’?
Coding is the process of using a programming language to get a computer to behave how you want it to. Every line of code tells the computer to do something, and a document full of lines of code is called a script.

In order to access your child’s current account, you must first download the app (available in both the App Store as well as the Google Play Store).

In order to sign in to the classroom account, you will need a 5-character class code.
Once generated, this code is valid for only 2 hours.

If you are interested, please sign up at the following link, and the new code will be emailed to you this Thursday after 6:00 PM.  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1_p4ZXR6svYSsRFnrL6dKF1zJ21TRKQ1Ug1mTVdiiWuc/edit?usp=sharing
