Week 3 Term 2

Mr Ed

We had the pleasure to welcome Mr Ed to the grade 5 team last Wednesday, he is a very welcome addition and will be with us until Mr Nic returns.

How we express ourselves- Exhibition

Thank you to all of the parents who attended the meeting this morning. The links to both Dr Puk’ slides is here and to Grade 5’s slides is here. Please if you have any questions or concerns please ask by email or drop by to see us.

We spent last week investigating lots of ideas which could lead to our exhibition area of study, undertaking a variety of  thinking skills activities in order to identify the area of study which will be chosen for the exhibition investigation. Many students now have an idea of the types of areas they will be looking into however On Thursday’s assembly time some of the specialist teachers will share their own passions with the students and choices may then change.

Maths we are now completing our short study of number patterns and will be moving onto a much longer and more in depth study of fractions, decimals and percentages. the students have been reminded that all Maths skills can be and should be regularly practised at home using the IXL program they all have access to.

In Literacy we will be continuing to work on narrative accounts including using expressive devices such as metaphors and similes to help build the atmosphere of our settings and characters. We will also be looking at perspective and the audience for our narratives.

Sports day

The  P. E. department led us in a very enjoyable afternoon of sport last Friday With running races of varying distances. The enthusiasm from the students was very clear as was their support for each other. congratulations go to all students for taking part with a special mention to the members of Tosakan House for winning this particular competition.

Football -The girls scored a great win of 12- 0 against Wells school. The boys won 11-1 also against Wells which rounded up a great week of sport.

Many of the students were involved with the Saturday practice of Going for gold. Well done to them and their parents for getting here on a Saturday and for being keen to take part in this production. We look forward to seeing the show on 31st January.
