Dear EY1 community,
It’s been a fun and busy week in EY1. We continue to support our EY1 students as they adjust to challenges of the hybrid model and separating from loved ones. This transition requires children to be brave, open-minded and balanced learners as they adapt to change and develop relationships with both their teachers and peers.

This Week’s Learning & Fun

This week we had our Cat friends help us check in online and at school. During Small Group Calls and Circle Time, the children were invited to greet their friends with different meows sounds. Some friends chose to be LOUD cats, some were quiet and some were sleepy cats! We also made wonderful Cat crafts with Ms Noi at our craft center this week.
In Circle Time this week we introduced a new center of matching upper and lowercase letters and a new song to support our understanding. The children are becoming more familiar with the daily schedule and the playground continues to be the favourite for most.

We also introduced a new transition strategy for tidying up after meal times. The children follow the steps below as they are encouraged to be respectful and choose a quiet activity until all friends have finished eating.

Sports Day & Specialists

The children really enjoyed the online Sports Day this week. They had great fun and engaged in both live sessions and Seesaw activities to obtain points for their Houses. In small groups this week, we focused on the letter C, the sound and identifying words with the beginning sound. Music and PE continue to be highlighted for some children and we always look forward to seeing our friends Mr Max and Mr Chris online each week.

We tuned into our next unit of inquiry by sharing home videos of ourselves playing at home via Seesaw. Thank you to all of those who have shared a special family play time. Be sure to look on the Seesaw Blog where you will have the opportunity to observe and comment on other children and their families’ play videos.
It would also be a great idea to revisit Ms Tanis workshop on the Importance of Play to help support your understanding of our next unit.
