Week 21: Sharing the Planet

A busy time of both online learning and in class sessions this week.

We have been introducing the children to ways of getting ready for learning as they come in from outdoor play. We have been doing some simple breathing and focus activities which help the children to get into the right mindset for learning.

We continued to explore a range of different types of patterns during the week as well as think more about environments. We compared different types of environment and gave thought to what belongs and does not belong in each.

    .

The children created a variety of decorations for Chinese New Year and began to think about making a shop in one of the classroom areas.

Next week we will go on enviro-walks in small groups around the school campus. We will explore and observe our KIS environment and begin to record what we see by drawing. We will look for patterns both man-made and natural and also search for other natural and living things that exist in our environment. Within literacy we will read and begin to act out short stories starting with the story/song, Five Little Ducks. We will also revisit data handling where we will take morning surveys and ask questions to our friends related to our surveys. As mentioned earlier, the children also want to change one of our classroom areas so we have discussed possible things we could set up such as shops, a restaurant, kitchen, movie theatre and a hair dressers. Next week we will work on creating this new area.

We have noticed that on our return to school, many of our students want the same toys at the same time and so we will continue to help the children to share and work problems out using verbal techniques rather than getting physical or upset. We will have discussions and do lots of role-play to help them develop these essential skills of sharing and communication.
