Week of 20th – 24th September

Dear EY3 Children and Families,

Thank you for another wonderful week of learning in EY3!

For our Unit of Inquiry, we continued to learn about responsibility. Students already have a good understanding of what responsibility means, therefore this week we discussed ways to take on new responsibilities. It was great to see a variety of responsibility goals on Seesaw linked to the home, the classroom, and the community. If you notice your child being responsible, it would be great if you could point out what a wonderful job they’re doing.

For Language Arts, the children developed communication skills as they created journal entries about their weekends. After the long weekend, they showed enthusiasm when retelling their exciting weekend events. Finally, they responded to the book “This is our House.” They showed creative thinking when responding as they were able to make connections to their own experiences.

This week in maths students were introduced to Numicon. Numicon shapes help children to see connections between Numicon shapes and numbers. Students explored and showed their understanding of the Numicon shape, number, and the corresponding number of objects. They also used their thinking skills to order them from smallest to largest and created magnificent pictures. They enjoyed learning about positional language. They practiced using positional language such as inside, outside, above, below, next to, behind, in front of, up, down.

This week we celebrated International Peace Day. In our morning meetings, we discussed the importance of peace, calmness, and tranquility. Students enjoyed responding to the book “What Does Peace Feel Like?” and also created peace doves.
