G1 update 4th February

Term 2 Week 5

The Floating Field

Wednesday for World Read Aloud day, Scott Riley had a virtual visit with KIS. His book, The Floating Field is very relevant to our students as it is about the boys on Koh Panyee who built their own football field and then created their own football club. It shows passion, commitment, determination and risk-taking. We will be taking pre-orders for the book (currently not available in Thailand) at B990. If you are interested, please complete the Google Form and send the money to your child’s class teacher.

Dress up Day  for Maths Week

On Friday 11th February students and staff will come in costumes inspired from the world of Maths. We look forward to seeing the kinds of ideas that our students and families create. This should make an exciting end to Maths Week and for the final day before the holiday week.

Maths

For Maths week we explore the ‘why’ of maths – why we use it, why we choose different ways to use it. We will take a learning walk to see where we can spot maths being used in our community. We will also start to make estimates for number, weight, length, size and capacity and try to find strategies to make realistic estimates.

Literacy

We continue to develop our creative writing skills and write poetry about people we know – those people who are close to us and reading we will focus on retelling a story from beginning, middle to end.

Inquiry

This week students will continue to explore our first line of inquiry ‘Why do we express ourselves?’ We will focus on exploring in more depth the things we express such as feelings, ideas and experiences.
