This past week, we continue to go further with our thinking regarding the states of matter. Students began planning (and presenting) their own experiments in front of the classes. Learning from each other is one of the best ways that we can help each other understand the scientific method.
In math, we did inquiries into both temperature and measurement involving weight. The students found objects in the classroom that they estimated were a certain weight, and then had to use numeracy skills to figure out which groups were the closest. We are also learning how to convert between grams/kilograms, meters/centimeter, and (next week) liters/milliliters.
In literacy, we are inquiring into different scientists that could match our own passions in life. After researching about them and finding out more about them, we will begin planning a narrative story around them as the main character, and that will probably take the next week or so.
We had a great time making soap with Tzuri’s mom and really appreciated the chance to see how people manipulate matter for our own benefits.
