Wow, what a great first week. The new Grade 3 students joined us with enthusiasm and passion and excellent communication skills. We all had a lot of fun getting to know each other, and the teachers and EA’s have been impressed with the quality of work that we are already seeing.

Here are some examples that the students shared with us about their learning spaces and why they like them on Seesaw.

A reminder that it is a school-wide expectation, as part of a caring and inclusive learning community, that cameras must be turned on during all Meets. If you have any questions about this expectation please email your homeroom teacher.

Help Desk Padlet

As we move forward, with a growth mindset, please remember that learning systems and routines take time to establish so it is perfectly expected for students to be asking questions and sometimes being not sure what to do.

The Help Desk Padlet is always monitored during school hours, and we try to respond as quickly as possible. It’s also a good chance for students to help one another if they know the answer to a question.

Weekly Parent Meeting

For parents, we have a weekly meeting on Wednesday mornings at 8:15am. The link will be sent out in an email as it is against policy to post it in a public forum. If you ever have any questions or concerns, feel free to pop-in at that time and talk to the teachers.

If you have any urgent questions or concerns, you can always email your  homeroom teacher directly.

The Week Ahead

Please find the planner for Week 2 – August 16 – 20  – at this link.

Reading – We will be doing reading assessments with each student over the following week during Reading time. We will be posting the assessment schedules into our Google Classroom streams, so it’s important that students always check it each morning.

If students are not being assessed, they will have independent reading activities on various platforms.

Math – We will continue to think about what it means to be a good mathematician, as well as working on our mental math skills. We will be using the next couple of weeks to get our brains thinking about what we learned last year and focusing on which foundational math skills we need to work on next.

UOI – This week will require a bit of reflection on our students’ part. They will reflect on their strengths and weaknesses as learners and think about what they need to do to improve. We will also be looking at the learner profiles and what they look like in real life.

Language – This will build on last week’s lesson about planning out our writing as students plan how to write a letter to their teacher. This will connect to the UOI as students will need to share what they have reflected on. Students will also be writing a story or a comic strip that shows a character(s) exhibiting a learner profile.

Here is what you will need for the week ahead, in both homeroom and specialist classes.
