Friday 28th January

Good afternoon G3 Parents and Families,

It has been another busy week filled with research projects and presentations, along with the students’ abilities to be flexible whilst learning both in school and at home for the two remote learning days this week. This week we have been finding out about different explorers throughout history and the importance of discoveries leading to new understandings. Students worked hard with their research, note taking and presenting skills to put together their final presentations, please see a selection of photos below.

As we look ahead we have some exciting events coming up including Chinese New Year on Tuesday 1st February whereby all students are encouraged to come to school in traditional Chinese costume or simply red clothing. Today, students will be bringing home a red envelope, we are asking for a small donation (suggested 20-50B), to be returned from Monday – Friday of next week and students to hang onto the CNY tree at the front of the atrium. All money will be going towards a local charity, more information regarding the proceeds can be found in the Head of School Letter this afternoon.

7-Eleven - Now Delivering To Your Door‎

We also would like to ask for a favour, in school we have a limited amount of headphones for students to use, and these are even more restricted at the moment due to cleaning requirements after each use. Therefore, we would like to ask all students to bring in a pair of  wired/JAX headphones to be kept in student’s personal trays to be used when needed. These are available at 7-eleven, please no bluetooth headphones, these are expensive and very easy to lose in and around the classroom. Something similar to this would be great:

Looking ahead:

Please find the planner for Term 2 Week 3– January 31st-4th Feb  – at this link.

UOI – This week’s focus will be on students’ drawing from their own personal travel experiences, exploration and their discoveries.

We will start the week by introducing the students to the digital tool Google Earth. Students will have plenty of opportunities to explore and discover places of personal interests such as:

  • Where they live
  • Family relatives location
  • School
  • Places of personal interests in Bangkok

They will also complete a scavenger hunt challenge to sharpen their skills when using Google Earth.

The language focus for this week will compliment the UOI again. Students’ will draw from their own personal travel experiences, exploration and their discoveries. Students will be introduced to travel brochures. Students will have opportunities to inquire into what they are, what they look like and what is usually included in them.

Q What makes a good travel brochure?

Students will co create with the Class Teacher a Travel brochure checklist.

Qs If you were going to make a brochure of your own, where would it be for?

What would it look like?

Students will plan and devise their layout & contents to be included in their own brochure.
Students will be continuing to work on the following skills

  • Designing
  • Researching
  • note taking
  • summarising
  • presenting their work
  • cross referencing
  • finding reliable sources and examples

Students will have to think of what digital tools they will use to create their brochures e.g. Canva for example.

This week students will continue with building individual multiplication and dividing individual fluency. We will focus on differentiated tasks to work on their individual fluency. Students will also be introduced to finding factors of numbers and continue to use strategies introduced last week such as using a number line, arrays, inverse of mult/div facts.

Students will have opportunities to practice division with sharing groups and  manipulatives whilst continue completing the Daily Mental Maths where we will explore concepts we have explored so far.

Hit the Button Maths game (yr 1-6) | Nailsworth CofE Primary School

Here is a great game that we are encouraging students to practise with and try to beat their own score:

ReadingFlight Checks Raz Kids – All students will have a reading assessment on Raz Kids to complete. Groups  1 & 2 will have one session with an adult and the other to complete their flight check. (This maybe done individually with Class teacher)

Vocabulary Acquisition – students focusing on reading for meaning and noticing any new or unfamiliar vocabulary as they read. Using tools such as a thesaurus and dictionary to extend and develop understanding of a text. Asking and answering questions about texts they are reading to build comprehension skills and understanding. Students will use a range of reading platforms (ORT, library books, Raz and Epic) to read for pleasure at an instructional level.

We thank you so much for your continued support as we continue to navigate challenging times, please, if you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact your homeroom teacher and we will be happy to help however we can.
