G3 Weekly Update 01.04.22

Good afternoon G3 Parents and Families,

Over the past few months G3 students have been working on their word building skills to take part in the Literacy Planet Word Mania Competition. G3 has been competing with many schools from around the world.  Sadly we didn’t make it to the finals this week but we wanted to give a big shout out to all the kids who have taken part and an extra shout out to Punn, Nina and Miya who managed to get some staggering high word scores in 3 minutes – Punn 2946, Nina 2461 and Miya 2042!

UOI/Language

This week UOI and Language were combined as students started research on their individual projects. Students had to decide on a landform they would like to research further.

Copy of the rubric shared with the G3 Students

They carried out the following:

  • Wrote their own research questions
  • organised their research notes using the Cornell Note taking system
  • Planned out their non-fiction report/presentation for their chosen landform
  • chose which platform they will they use e.g. Canva/Powtoon/Google Slides/Jamboard/Book Creator etc
  • Chose which non-fiction features which will best support their research

Math

This week students continued to explore their understanding of fractions by looking at finding fractions of different amounts, hunting for equivalent fractions and collecting data on their own fraction surveys to carry out in their class.

Reading

Students continued to work through the units using Wonder Reads in their class reading groups. There will be a combination of reading and writing activities for the students to do. Students will use a range of reading platforms (ORT, library books, Raz, Epic & Newslea) to read for pleasure at an instructional level. Students are encouraged to apply and use these reading strategies when reading both independently and when reading with an adult at home.

Remote learners have s read aloud session every Friday at 12pm – 12:40 pm.

G5 PYP Exhibition

G3 thoroughly enjoyed visiting the PYP G5 Exhibition. Where they had opportunities to talk and ask questions directly to students about causes that mattered to them. Most importantly to help celebrate G5’s learning and their action.
