UOI
This week in U.O.I we looked at- What is energy? Where does it come from?
Students got to look at different types of both renewable and non-renewable energy sources. Then they had to choose one that they were interested in researching further to better understand how it worked. Then they compiled a list of advantages and disadvantages.
Solar energy was popular across the grade and so we decided to conduct an experiment by creating solar ovens to see if we could melt some cheese in a pita pockets. The students really enjoyed it and we had a wide range of results.
We visited EY2 who gave us some wonderful tips building and inspiration for our solar ovens.
Maths
This week students learned about collecting and presenting data:
Key questions: What is data? How do we collect it? What are the ways in which we can present it?
- Coming up with their own questions
- Collect data of choice in class – how would you present it?
- Three different alternative ways to present the same data
pie/line/bar/pictograph - Which was most effective & why?

Students continued to work through the units using Wonder Reads in their class reading groups. There will be a combination of reading and writing activities for the students to do. Students will use a range of reading platforms (ORT, library books, Raz, Epic & Newslea) to read for pleasure at an instructional level. Students are encouraged to apply and use reading strategies when reading both independently and with an adult. Students should be reading three Raz books a week.
