Swimming postponed untill 22nd March

Dear G3 parents,

A staff member has had contact with a positive case outside of school, and is, therefore, a High Risk/primary contact. Unfortunately, this will mean swimming classes for G3 will be postponed until the 22nd March. We will inform you if this changes.

Apologies for this delay with the swim programme,  however, the safety of the students is of the utmost importance to us.

Many thanks for your support,

Warm regards,

G3 Weekly Update 11.03.22

Good afternoon G3 Parents and Families,

It has been yet another busy week in G3.

Ms Ronyii and Ms Jen would like to thank all the parents for attending Parent Conferences this week. It really was a lovely opportunity to reconnect and share your child’s progress with you all.

GC3 will return on Wednesday 16th March. Mr Marc will be holding Parent Teacher Conferences so all appointments already made will remain the same. Here is the link –  G3 Parent Teacher Conferences

For those students who remain learning remotely, please follow G3C Google Classroom for your daily checkin and daily timetable. (They will be added to the G3C Google classroom)

UOI

This week in UOI we started off finding out what the students already knew about Tectonic Plates. Through a series of slides and videos we discussed how the earth was one landmass called Pangaea. Together the crust and the upper mantle make up the Earth’s tectonic plates which fit together like a puzzle. Over  145 million years the tectonic plates started to split Pangaea apart to form the continents we know today. Students carefully cut and assembled their own tectonic plate puzzles.

Thursday morning we continued the fun with some hands-on experiments and observations. This week we investigated the viscosity of different liquids .

On Friday we made connections on what was going on in the upper mantle affects the movement of the tectonic plates and land formations. Students were introduced to the following scientific terms below which they had to research and find out about.

  • Divergent
  • Convergent
  • transforming

Language

In language this week students started comparing features of nonfiction and fiction books. Then students in groups presented their research findings of the different  layers of the Earth to the rest of the class. Students were able to give constructive feedback and did a fabulous job of presenting their findings with improved confidence.

Math

This week, students continued to explore their understanding of fractions. Students created their own fraction walls and used them to identify equivalent fractions.

Reading

To mix things up a little this week in reading  the Students had a week of D.E.A.R. which they thoroughly enjoyed having the opportunities to read on a range of platforms.

Every Friday, remote learners will join Ms Ronyii  from 12 – 12:40 pm for a reading session.

Looking ahead

Please find the planner for Term 2 Week 9– 14th –18th March  at this link.

Literacy

In literacy we will continue exploring and understanding features of nonfiction texts and how these features  are used to organise information, e.g. headings and subheading.

Reading

This week we will continue the D.E.A.R. Flight Checks on Raz Kids will be given and teachers will be conducting reading assessments in the next coming weeks.

UOI

Next students will be inquiring into the ring of fire – where is it? Why are volcanoes formed there? How are volcanoes formed?

Maths

We will continue exploring fractions by comparing and ordering them.

UOI

This week in UOI we started off the week by unpacking the Central Idea: The Earth constantly changes due to natural forces. Students used dictionaries, thesauruses and online dictionaries (https://kids.wordsmyth.net/we/) to find and understand what the words meant. The students had a group challenge this week, to become experts in one of the 4 or 5 different layers of the earth. The students enjoyed researching and working in their groups.

With this new unit we are able to dedicate Thursday mornings to do some fun  hands-on experiments and observations. This week we investigated Convection Currents and the effect that heat has on liquid?

Language

In language this week students focused on using the Cornell Note taking method to help students make notes whilst researching their layer of the Earth. Ready to be the expert in their group during Friday’s session when they rejoin and plan how and what they want to present.  Cornell Note Taking video

Math

This week, students continued to explore their understanding of multiplying and dividing by 10/100/100. We also introduced fractions where the students had to complete an initial checkin quiz,  learned about tenths and applied that knowledge  to recognise and match different fractions.

Reading

Students continue to work through the units using Wonder Reads in their class reading groups. There will be a combination of  reading and writing activities for the students to  do. Students will use a range of reading platforms (ORT, library books, Raz, Epic & Newslea) to read for pleasure at an instructional level. Students will apply and use reading strategies when reading complete both independently and with an adult..

G3 25.02.22

Good afternoon G3 Parents and Families,

Welcome back after a restful holiday. It has been lovely to hear all the wonderful and fun things the students have been up to in the holiday. It has  also been lovely to see some of the G3 families return to Thailand after being away.  Sadly we had to say goodbye to Isa, Ahmad and family who have returned to Pakistan. We wish them well on their new adventures back home.

For those of our students who remain learning remotely, thank you for your continued patience. We are striving to ensure learning outcomes are consistent regardless of whether students are learning in the classroom or at home. Ms Rachel will continue to provide additional opportunities for remote learning students to engage in live lessons with the class in school.

Next Monday please check you emails on Monday as we will be sending home G3 sign up sheets for Parent conferences.

This week we didn’t hold back and resumed our normal school routines. We were super impressed how all the students have settled back into school routines and expectations after the holidays. The students were especially delighted to hear on Monday they would be able to choose their own meals in the school canteen like they used to.

G3 students really enjoyed exploring the uniqueness of Twosday February 22.02.22. Students learned about Palindrome and Ambigram numbers. Palindrome numbers, being able to read numbers forwards and backward. Ambigram numbers being able to read the same number upside down.

UOI

We have had a wonderful start tuning into our new unit of inquiry How The World Works. Central Idea – The Earth’s geographical features are constantly changing.’

Monday students had to think about what was under their feet. It posed some interesting conversations and some great pictures.

On Tuesday we explored how what we call our home Earth evolved.

Thursday the students were treated to a hands-on morning learning and exploring the layers of the Earth. Students  enjoyed tuning in and sorting out of their ideas around the concepts.

Language

In language this we decided to deviate from the normal recount to get the children to write their own personal narrative about their February break. The students enjoyed writing a story where they were the main character and were able to take something fun/interesting that happened last week and turn it into a story.  Once finished, edited and published students have they stories made into a class book.

Math

This week, students were introduced to multiplying by 10/100/1000. With the first session we wanted to find out what students already know and connections that can be made: Throughout the week the students built on their initial knowledge and understandings through a range of activities.

Reading

Students continue to work through the units using Wonder Reads in their class reading groups. There will be a combination of  reading and writing activities for the students to

Vocabulary Acquisition – students focusing on reading for meaning and noticing any new or unfamiliar vocabulary as they read. Using tools such as a thesaurus and dictionary to extend and develop understanding of a text. Asking and answering questions about texts they are reading to build comprehension skills and understanding. Students will use a range of reading platforms (ORT, library books, Raz , Epic and Newslea) to read for pleasure at an instructional level. Students will apply and use reading strategies when reading complete both independently and with an adult..

Every Friday, remote learners will join Ms Ronyii  from 12 – 12:40 pm for a reading lesson.

Friday was a fun day where students got to wear their house shirts and be super creative with their hairstyles as it was Crazy Hair Day! Lots of happy house points were earned today!

Please see some photos below of this weeks learning.

Looking ahead:
