So glad to be back!
As you can see from the photos above we are all glad to be learning again on the school campus.
We have had a busy week creating the central ideas and lines of inquiry which will drive the students exhibition investigations. All of these are now complete and the students are already deeply into research mode. This will be ongoing throughout the whole exhibition process as it is the basis of all units.
They are also looking at how their lines of inquiry connect to the key concepts and how they can show that they are demonstrating not only the learner profile attributes but also the approaches to learning skills.
The exhibition process in Grade5 is an excellent opportunity for the students to demonstrate agency, by creating their own timeline and by pursuing their own research on an issue which interests them. However they do need some guidance so this week they will be having their first mentor meetings. Please do ask them how these went and encourage them to keep up with their research but please remember that it is the student’s exhibition and they need to do it themselves.
Our fractions and decimal work was completed last week so this week we will be jumping back to statistics and graphing to connect this area of mathematics to exhibition before moving onto measurement.
Last week we were investigating how to identify quotes which will prove a particular point and this week we will be investigating different text types to see which ones will be the most useful to us in the exhibition process.
These will start this week. Please pick your child up promptly from these as we need to abide by the safety measures.
Chinese New Year
This will be celebrated on Friday 12th February. The community will be wearing red or chinese clothes on this day to celebrate so please encourage your child to do the same.
We started back well but in order to stay safe we still need to follow the guidelines below, please encourage your child to remember and take action on these important safety protocols.
- Masks will be worn at all times apart from when eating or drinking. This includes P.E lessons and when playing on the playground, including football. Any child not wearing their mask properly after several warnings will be isolated, at playtimes and in the classroom, to avoid them creating a risk to others.
- Social distancing will happen. Danger zones- include walking too closely on the stairs or using the incorrect stairway.
- Frequent hand sanitizing will take place. Sharing of equipment will be avoided but any which is shared will be cleaned between use. Parents, please sanitize your hands when picking up your child at the end of the day.
- Swimming will not happen for the first few weeks an extra P.E session will take its place.
Thank you for your continued support. We hope you stay safe and healthy.
