What a lovely time we had celebrating the Chinese New Year.

We made lanterns, donated money in our envelopes and hung these on the tree, found out about the traditions of the new year festival and learnt about  the origin story featuring the animals and the Jade emperor.

Everyone has been so busy investigating their Sustainable Development Goal. All students have now had their first mentor meeting and some have already emailed and received answers from their primary resource and experts, all of which is helping them to deepen their knowledge of their subject. This week the students will be looking into the data and graphs associated with their inquires and beginning to use their knowledge in a written text of their choosing.

For the next few weeks the students will be revisiting decimals in their attempt to understand these in realtion to measures  including length, capacity and volume.

Literacy is now embedded in the exhibition process, where the students will be writing in their own chosen text type to explain their issue to others. Reading groups will continue as should reading at home. The students are also being encouraged to be aware of current affairs and to read and take note of any articles they can find which are connected to their exhibition inquiries.

ICT meeting

Thank you to all parents who attended the meeting with Dr Puk on Monday about the use of student’s own laptops in school. Please find the link to the presentation above and also the link to the form which should be filled in prior to the students arriving with their laptops.

Grade 5 Parent Conferences

These conferences will now take place after the Grade 5 exhibition due to take place on 10th, 11th March so that teachers and students can reflect on this process. At this moment, due to Covid restrictions, the exhibitions for parents will take place online but it is hoped that the students will still be able to present face to face to other year groups.

We are still striving to stay safe so we  need to follow the guidelines below, please encourage your child to remember and take action on these important safety protocols.

  1. Masks will be worn at all times apart from when eating or drinking. This includes P.E lessons and when playing on the playground, including football.  Any child not wearing their mask properly after several warnings will be isolated, at playtimes and in the classroom, to avoid them creating a risk to others.
  2. Social distancing will happen.  Danger zones- include walking too closely on the stairs or using the incorrect stairway.
  3. Frequent hand sanitizing will take place. Sharing of equipment will be avoided but any which is shared will be cleaned between use. Parents, please sanitize your hands when picking up your child at the end of the day.
  4. Swimming will not happen for the first few weeks an extra P.E session will take its place.

Thank you for your continued support. We hope you stay safe and healthy.
