As part of our core mission statement Creating a caring and inclusive community the Grade 5 students created a  padlet of games, art activities to make, paper tasks and even some cooking videos to entertain the rest of  the school on today’s Halloween event. The students had fun creating the activities and showed off their  presentation skills in a wide variety of videos incorporating instructions, jokes and dramatic storytelling.  Many of the students successfully managed to collaborate with their classmates and with students from the rest of the grade level (even during online learning). Well done to all the students who took the time and effort to make something to be enjoyed by the whole community.

Unit of inquiry

This week the students have been refining their understanding of the push and pull factors and the vocabulary which is associated with migration as well as investigating personal stories of refugees. They also did a wonderful job at the beginning of the week presenting their refugee crisis research to the rest of the class.  Next week the main theme will be focussed around who helps people who migrate and the impact that immigrants can have on the countries they move to both good and not so good.

Literacy

Having researched the facts to be used in their diaries, the students will this week complete their diary challenge by writing three diary extracts which tell the story of someone migrating from one country to another. Starting with the first extract explaining why the move takes place, the second extract based upon the journey undertaken and the third extract sees the character reach a destination. We are really looking forward to reading these.

Numeracy

After consolidating their addition and subtraction skills this week, the students will be applying these skills in a range of real life situation problem solving next week.
