Unit of inquiry
This week the students have been continuing their investigations into how energy is transformed from one form to another. Following the scientific method they have created, undertaken, recorded and shared their experiments with others. See the photos below to see how they did. Next week the students will focus on how chemical energy in the form of food is transformed in a human’s body and will begin to inquire into healthy eating.
The students how now investigated stereotyping in magazines and are determined to produce their own non-gender specific magazines. They have organised the roles they will take on as part of the magazines staff. We are though going to take a break next week from magazines to focus on poetry and will come back to the magazines later in the term.
As you can see on the link above, Ms Lisa and Ms Earth have set the whole of PYP a Cartoon challenge They have even arranged for us to get some expert tips from a Graphic artist on Friday vis a zoom call. Grade 5 will be taking part in this and we are really looking forward to seeing the characters and the cartoons the students present.
The students are continuing their inquiries into how fractions, decimals and percentages are connected, learning how to transfer values from one to another also solving word problems associated with these. Next week the students will move onto investigating angles and degrees.
As the students did such an amazing job presenting their exhibitions issues to their parents Grade 5 have decided to use this as the student- led conference which allows the 16th May conference to be focused on three way conferences which means a more in-depth conversation can take place between student, parent and teachers as to goals for next year. We will be sending out sign up sheets for this soon.
We have been very lucky to be given permission to hold a graduation celebration in the auditorium this year, the first time for three years, to which we can invite parents. This will take place on the morning of 25th May (actual time to be confirmed). All parents will need to have submitted a negative ATK test and follow the mask wearing and social distancing protocols. This will be a lovely way to send the students on their way to the MYP and we look forward to seeing you all there.
The school council members and House leaders have been busy again this week. Please read their newsletter pyp website.
