We’ve got the knowledge
Inspiring Individuals
We’re filled with the spirit of learning
The spirit of loving
The spirit of joy and we’re blessed
We’re KIS
They say that knowledge is power
And I’m a powerful girl
With my feet firmly planted
And my head in a whirl
The world is changing every day
But I’ll learn new things on the way
I’ll go the distance to make a difference
‘Til I can finally say
We’ve got the knowledge
Inspiring Individuals
We’re filled with the spirit of learning
The spirit of loving
The spirit of joy and we’re blessed
We’re KIS
I’m filled with inspiration
By the things around me
From music and dancing
To the birds in the trees
The world is changing every day
But I’ll learn new things on the way
I’ll go the distance to make a difference
‘Til I can finally say
We’ve got the knowledge

Surrounded by friendship

Welcome to a new year of music making here at KIS. We have many exciting things in store and many new things to learn.
Our first unit, Inspiring Individuals, a school-wide unit, takes a look at our quality learning behaviours and how they look in the music classes.
At KIS we believe that quality learning behaviours include:
Striving for understanding
Developing our passions
An inclusive and caring community
Taking ethical action.
We will be performing in the end-of-year show.
Your teachers will tell you more about what you are doing but we will be ending the show with ‘Try Everything’ from the movie Zootopia and the KIS song which we will all sing together.
Here they are to practice at home and in class:

J S Bach wrote a lot of beautiful music, much of it for the pipe organ.
Pipe organs are magnificent instruments some of which are very large indeed and hundreds of years old.
Draw and colour a picture of a pipe organ and bring it to show me when we return to school.
Listening attentively to music is a real skill which requires concentration and effort. We will be listening to some beautiful music from the period of music history called the baroque period.
Here are some examples:
Vivaldi:
Bach
Handel
What can you find out about these composers and they time in which they lived and worked?
In our new unit we are exploring how musicians connect music with storytelling using music not only to enhance a story but to be the story itself!
We are looking at how musical instruments can used to be the characters in the story and there’s o better place to start than with Peter and the Wolf.
We have compared three different versions of the story and have one more left to go before we look at some other stories with music.
