Mr Chris
Welcome to a new year of music making here at KIS. We have many exciting things in store and many new things to learn.
Our first unit, Inspiring Individuals, a school-wide unit, takes a look at our quality learning behaviours and how they look in the music classes.
At KIS we believe that quality learning behaviours include:
Striving for understanding
Developing our passions
An inclusive and caring community
Taking ethical action.
We have been inquiring how the creators of television and film can manipulate our emotions through music and commonalities.
Here are a few of my favourite examples:
Doctor
Teacher
Music
We looked at how music can transform the mundane and change the mood.
Here are some Disney trailers as scary movies:
Pinocchio
Tangled
Using iMovie, add some scary music to a video of you doing everyday things at home and share it with us in class next week.
You can find lots of royalty-free scary music on YouTube.
Please use your time to inquire into and listen to some jazz music.
There are so many styles and types of jazz and so far we have looked at Scat, Dixieland or traditional jazz and some jazz-fusion.
I would like you to find me an example of be-bop jazz and an example of big-band jazz music. You can do this on YouTube, the music teacher’s friend.
Explain the reason for your choices, whether you liked it, and your reasons why, or why not.
Email me the link and we will discuss it when we return to class.
Happy listening
Jazz, a very American art-form is the music of ideas, self-expression, improvisation and virtuosity.
From its early days in the eating places and entertainment districts of New Orleans to its rightful place in the mainstream of popular music jazz is everywhere.
It’s cool, man.
The birth of jazz:

The spirit of loving, the spirit of joy and we’re blessed
We’re KIS

[Intro]
Hey now, hey now
Hey now, hey now
Olivia
Have you ever seen such a beautiful night?
I could almost kiss the stars for shining so bright
Elle
When I see you smiling I go, “Oh, oh, oh”
I would never want to miss this
‘Cause in my heart, I know what this is
[Chorus] Everybody
Hey now, hey now
This is what dreams are made of
Hey now, hey now
This is what dreams are made of
I’ve got somewhere I belong
I’ve got somebody to love
This is what dreams are made of
Najann
Have you ever wondered what life is about?
You could search the world and never figure it out
Mai
You don’t have to sail the oceans
No, no, no
Happiness is no mystery
It’s here and now
It’s you and me, yeah
[Chorus] Everybody
Hey now, hey now
This is what dreams are made of
Hey now, hey now
This is what dreams are made of
I’ve got somewhere I belong
I’ve got somebody to love
This is what dreams are made of
Olivia
Open your eyes
Everybody
(This is what dreams are made of)
Olivia
Shout to the skies
Everybody
(This is what dreams are made of)
Olivia
When I see you smiling I go, “Oh, oh, oh”
Yesterday my life was duller
Now everything’s technicolor
[Chorus] Everybody
Hey now, hey now
This is what dreams are made of
Hey now, hey now
This is what dreams are made of
I’ve got somewhere I belong (belong)
I’ve got somebody to love
This is what dreams, dreams
This is what dreams are made of
[Outro]
Hey now, hey now (hey, hey, hey, hey)
Hey now (hey, hey, hey, hey)
This is what dreams
