Welcome back to School

The beginning of a new academic year is always filled with excitement, anticipation, and curiosity. This year at KIS we introduce a well revised Programme of Inquiry that will add scientific inquiry; methods and hands-on learning engagements, into our Units of Inquiry.

Here are just a few samples of our new Units:
In Early Years

How the world works
An inquiry into the natural world and its laws;
the interaction between the natural world
(physical and biological) and human societies;
how humans use their understanding of
scientific principles;
the impact of scientific and technological
advances on society and on the environment.
Investigations
Central idea:
The opportunity of exploration
and discovery
can take place
through the process of investigations
.
An inquiry into:

  • The purpose of investigation
  • The ways we can investigate
  • What we can discover

Key concepts:  Function, causation, connection
Related Concepts:
Forces, energy, machines,

States of Matter
Central idea:
Transformation and manipulation
of matter can change the
way we use it. An inquiry into:

  • Understanding the properties of
    solids, liquids, and gases
  • Changes(reversible, irreversible)
    that can occur with solids, liquids,
    and gases,
  • Manipulating solids, liquids, and
    gasesfor a purpose

Key concepts:
Form, Function, Change
Related Concepts:
Matter, reversible, irreversible,
manipulation

With all these new units I share the same excitement and  anticipation with our students. I just cannot wait to start inquiring into these fabulous units.
