Swim Coaching Support

Dear Primary Swim Parents,

As you may have noticed we have had some new coaches coming to help with our Primary Coaching on Mondays and Fridays. This is to ensure student safety as well as provide a better student-coach ratio allowing the student to take more from training. Additionally, Coach Sathit has and will occasionally bring current and ex Youth National Thai swimmers to help demonstrate drills to the students. The last two weeks we have had Tanapat Katatikaranan help with demonstration and he specializes in Backstroke and long-distance Freestyle (previously won a silver medal in 400m at Asian Age Group in Indonesia).

I would like to take this time to introduce our support coaches who will attend every Monday and Friday to you. Firstly we have Coach Benjaporn “Ben” Sriphanomthorn who has been swimming and competing since the age of 6. She has won over 10 medals at SEA games between 2009-2015 as well as many more in other competitions. In 2017 she moved into Coaching and has worked at NIST and Denla as an assistant coach. She looks forward to working with KIS students and helping them to excel in swimming. Coach Ben will also help with G1-U Development Swim coaching on both Wednesday Morning and Friday.

Next, we have Coach Parin “Ton” Khemnajit who started swimming from the age of 11 but quickly found a love for the sport. He is currently attending Chulalongkorn University studying a Sport Science degree. He also works as a coach for Chulalongkorn Swim Club and recently attended the Thai National Championship at Kamphaeng Phet.

Lastly we have the support of our Secondary school swimmer Kym from Grade 10. Kym is keen to support our younger swimmers and inspiring them to improve their basic techniques. She will be supporting our assistant coaches while learning more about the role of a Coach. She currently holds some of our school records and her favorite stroke is Breaststroke.

Primary Development & G3-U Boys Football Trial Results

Dear Primary Parents,

Firstly a huge thank you to all the Students who have signed-up and tried out for the development teams last Friday. It can certainly be intimidating for students at such a young age to participate in a trial and it is fantastic to see our students being risk-takers. Please note that due to the ability shown by Boys in G3-U Basketball and the number of students that tried out for basketball, Coach Poy is happy to take all students. However please note for G3-U Girls Basketball and G1-U swimming not all students were selected as we feel some of the students need further development in their skills and technique as outlined in the selection criteria sent out in the letter (24th August).

Please see students who were selected for each team on the “KIS Coaching Teams” page. For Basketball please click here and for swimming please click here. Please note you will need to use the password sent out in the SMS in order to see final teams. If you see your child’s name on the GoogleSheet, congratulations, your child has been selected for that team. Please be reminded that all training will starts next week with their first session on 6th September and will run until 22nd May 2020.

If you do not see your child’s name under the sport and age group they tried out for, I am afraid this means your child was not selected. Please do continue to encourage your child to play sports and continue practicing. I would highly recommend signing up for afterschool in their related sport or practice with one of the many academies in Bangkok.

G3-U Boys Football:

Due to the Boys’ season not starting till January, Coach Ashley has decided that he would like to continue working with all of the boys till November before making his final selection. Through training and friendlies Coach Ashley will look to get a better idea of the ability of our boys. Please note we will not be giving out KIS Football uniform to students until a final selection has been made and we ask that students wear their KIS PE uniform for any future friendlies.

Dear Parents,

Please note both the Primary and Lower Secondary So You Think You Can Dance trials were completed on Monday. Please note that coaching for both classes will not begin until next week (5th & 6th September) due to Miss Lynn being away. Primary will train during Passion Period (Fridays 13:50-14:30) and Secondary will train every Thursday at 15:00-16:30.

Primary:

For Primary we had over 50 students sign-up for the trial and this certainly made it very difficult for Miss Lynn to select. We would like to pass our gratitude to all the students who were risk-takers and came for the trial. Please see below the students who were selected to be apart of the Primary SYTYCD Team:

Ava G3 Rella G3 Sabrina G4 Sumire G4 Yama G4
Zoom G4 Cali G5 Chloe G5 Ishi G5 Kaede G5
Kana G5 Mikli G5 Ninny G5 Proud G5

Lower Secondary:

Please note for Lower Secondary Miss Lynn has decided to take all students who came to the trial and split them into two groups. As Lower Secondary Students will be developing the routine themselves with the support of Miss Lynn, it will be feasible for us to keep everyone and split the team.

Dear Parents,

Please see the results of the trial for G7-U Boys Basketball (click here) and Secondary Swimming (click here). Please note if you do not see your child’s name, I am afraid that means they weren’t selected. Additionally, for selected Swimmers, I will find students during next week and speak to them about their selected training days.

A reminder that all students who signed up for G7-U Boys Basketball may return to training in January during the off-season.

Firstly thank you to all the Students who have signed-up and tried out for Primary teams over the last week. It is always a great inspiration to see so many students attempted their best. With the vast number of students of which almost all of them being equally talented, final team selection this year for our coaches was very difficult.

Please see students who were selected for each team on the “KIS Coaching Teams” page. Please note you will need to use the password sent out in the SMS in order to final teams. If you see your child’s name on the GoogleSheet, congratulations, your child has been selected for that team. Please be reminded that all training will starts next week from Monday 26th August. If you need a reminder of the training schedule, please see below.

Primary Coaching Schedule 1

If you do not see your child’s name under the sport and age group they tried out for, I am afraid this means your child was not selected. Further details about what areas you can look to improve on can be seen below but please note these points are not student specific.

Swimming

  • Can you swim all 4 strokes?
    • Technique: We are not too concerned with your time/speed but rather are you using the correct technique. It is harder to rebuild your technique then to increase your time/speed.
  • Showing correct technique in as many strokes as possible
  • Stamina

Football:

G3-U Boys:

Students still have the continuation of their trials next week, final results announced Friday 30th August

G3-U & G5-U Girls:

Please note both Coach Marc (G3-U) and Coach Nong (Chelsea – G5-U) have decided due to numbers and the ability shown by girls to not cut any girls from the team. Please note this means that for game select there will be some students who won’t be selected for games. Both Coaches will look to do their best to ensure all students get game time but I (Coach Sam) will be looking for friendlies throughout the school year to allow all students to play.

G5-U Boys:

Due to the Boys’ season not starting till January, Coach Ben has decided that he would like to continue working with all of the boys till November before making his final selection. Through training and friendlies Coach Ben will look to get a better idea of the ability of our boys. Please note we will not be giving out KIS Football uniform to students until a final selection has been made and we ask that students wear their KIS PE uniform for any future friendlies.

Swimming Coaches Profile:

I would like to introduce our two new Swim Coaches who joined KIS over the summer. First our new Aquatics Head Coach, Mr Sathit Hongthong (Coach Tuk) who holds a bachelor’s and masters in Sports Science as well as certificates with FINA, Elite Coach, and many more. Coach Sathit started coaching swimming as a head coach CYC Swim club for 10 years before joining Ruamrudee International School as Varsity Head Coach. While working there Coach Sathit slowly moved his skills towards the Thai national team as he took over Chulalongkorn’s Swim club as Head Coach. Over the past 5 years Coach Sathit has traveled to Japan, Korea, Singapore, Portugal and many countries with the national team. Coach Sathit now looks forward to bring his coaching to KIS and helping our swimmers to further their technique & speed as well as KIS overall Swim Program.

Our Assistant Coach is Miss Kate Sangsumritphon who holds a Bachelor and Master in Science as well as FINA Open water Coaching and Level 1 Coaching from Thailand Swim Association. While Coach Kate did not start coaching in Swimming at the start of her career, her love and passion for swimming brought her to pursue her career in swimming. She has worked with younger children through The Royal Bangkok Sports Club (RBSC) in different sports. She then moved to Chulalongkorn where she continued to work with younger students and started coaching Swimming.

Finally please note that over the next two weeks we will be preparing KIS coaching uniforms and handing them out to the students. Once your child receives their uniform, if it is too big or too small, please come to the KIS shop to exchange it. If a student’s uniform is lost or damaged, you will need to purchase a new one.

G5-U Basketball Trial Results & Workshop (Saturday 24th)

Dear Parents,

Please be inform both the Boys and Girls G5-U Basketball try-outs have been completed over the last two days.  During the trials, Students were tested on their ability to lay-up, shoot, dribble and most important teamwork on offense and defense. It is always a great inspiration to see so many students (over 40 for Basketball alone) attempted their best. With the vast number of students and the continued support of Basketball development, all students were equally talented which made this year’s final team selection for the coaches incredibly difficult.

Please see students who were selected for each team on the “KIS Basketball Team” under “KIS Coaching Teams” on the Sports Blog menu. Please note you will need to use the password sent out in the SMS in order to see final teams. If you see your child’s name on the GoogleSheet, congratulations, your child has been selected for that team. Please be reminded that all training will starts next week from Monday 26th August. ADDITIONALLY, please be reminded that we will have our Pre-Season Workshop this Saturday 24th August from 9 am – 12 pm in the Sports Hall. This is mandatory for selected Team members as our first league games will be in two weeks. Students should bring their water bottles and wear their PE uniform. We will give out KIS Basketball uniform next week, please do not come and ask the school shop for it.

If you do not see your child’s name, I am afraid this means your child was not selected. Further details about what areas you can look to improve on can be seen below but please note these points are not student specific.

Basketball

  • Hand-eye coordination
  • Ball control and dribbling- left & right hand and dribbling skills
  • Lay-ups and shooting- Do you know the basic steps to a lay-up, how is your shooting technique
  • Teamwork- moving the ball amongst your team, helping out where needed, supporting your teammates, movement on and off the ball
  • Defense- rebound, boxing out, positioning, hands up
  • Decision making- when to pass or shoot or drive

G5-U Girls:

Please note due to the number of sign ups and the ability of all the Girls, Coach Zack has decided to select all 15 girls. Please note that while Coach Zack will look to play every student, he will only be taking 10 to games. This may mean your child could not be selected to play for a league game but we will look to have friendlies where we can get everyone involved.
